Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation |
Narrative:
I departed mci and was cleared to 7000 ft. I was informed by departure control that I had VFR traffic at 2 O'clock position, 7500 ft. I leveled at 7000 ft and searched visually for the traffic. I noticed the target on my TCASII at 2 mi and 7500 ft, level. I was able to see the traffic visually at about the same time. The VFR pilot then stated he was on a collision course and was 'going down.' he was approximately 1 mi at this time. I noticed his target go to +400 to minus 100 and the horizontal separation go to zero. My TCASII gave a 2000 ft climb warning, which I initiated. I lost visual with the intruder during the RA response. I leveled at approximately 8000 ft and called departure. Controller instructed me to continue climb to 17000 ft, I think. We discussed the incident and controller gave me a telephone number. I contacted the facility after arrival in dfw. The supervisor said they were violating the other pilot and that I was 'clean.' he also stated that they did not require any report or further information.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD80 CAPT DESCRIBED AN NMAC WITH A GA ACFT IN MCI'S AIRSPACE.
Narrative: I DEPARTED MCI AND WAS CLRED TO 7000 FT. I WAS INFORMED BY DEP CTL THAT I HAD VFR TFC AT 2 O'CLOCK POS, 7500 FT. I LEVELED AT 7000 FT AND SEARCHED VISUALLY FOR THE TFC. I NOTICED THE TARGET ON MY TCASII AT 2 MI AND 7500 FT, LEVEL. I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE TFC VISUALLY AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. THE VFR PLT THEN STATED HE WAS ON A COLLISION COURSE AND WAS 'GOING DOWN.' HE WAS APPROX 1 MI AT THIS TIME. I NOTICED HIS TARGET GO TO +400 TO MINUS 100 AND THE HORIZ SEPARATION GO TO ZERO. MY TCASII GAVE A 2000 FT CLB WARNING, WHICH I INITIATED. I LOST VISUAL WITH THE INTRUDER DURING THE RA RESPONSE. I LEVELED AT APPROX 8000 FT AND CALLED DEP. CTLR INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTINUE CLB TO 17000 FT, I THINK. WE DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT AND CTLR GAVE ME A TELEPHONE NUMBER. I CONTACTED THE FACILITY AFTER ARR IN DFW. THE SUPVR SAID THEY WERE VIOLATING THE OTHER PLT AND THAT I WAS 'CLEAN.' HE ALSO STATED THAT THEY DID NOT REQUIRE ANY RPT OR FURTHER INFO.
