Narrative:
The airport has 2 runways that cross. I listened to ATIS and found winds calm, runway 29 in use. Wanting to depart to the east, I mistakenly asked ground for permission to taxi for runway 7. (The runway I was planning on using was actually runway 11.) I taxied to the run-up area for runway 11 and then told tower that I was holding short for runway 7, straight out departure. Tower cleared me for takeoff and as I departed tower asked me what runway I was cleared to takeoff on. I said runway 7 and tower advised I had just departed from runway 11. There was no other traffic and it did not create a safety hazard at that time. No corrective actions were needed. Human performance considerations: I failed to ensure that the runway I requested was actually the runway I wanted to takeoff from. This set up an expectation on my part that I was cleared to takeoff on a runway I don't normally use (runway 29 is usually the favored runway), inattn and overconfidence on my part caused this error.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE19 PLT DEPARTED FROM RWY 11 INSTEAD OF RWY 7.
Narrative: THE ARPT HAS 2 RWYS THAT CROSS. I LISTENED TO ATIS AND FOUND WINDS CALM, RWY 29 IN USE. WANTING TO DEPART TO THE E, I MISTAKENLY ASKED GND FOR PERMISSION TO TAXI FOR RWY 7. (THE RWY I WAS PLANNING ON USING WAS ACTUALLY RWY 11.) I TAXIED TO THE RUN-UP AREA FOR RWY 11 AND THEN TOLD TWR THAT I WAS HOLDING SHORT FOR RWY 7, STRAIGHT OUT DEP. TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF AND AS I DEPARTED TWR ASKED ME WHAT RWY I WAS CLRED TO TKOF ON. I SAID RWY 7 AND TWR ADVISED I HAD JUST DEPARTED FROM RWY 11. THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC AND IT DID NOT CREATE A SAFETY HAZARD AT THAT TIME. NO CORRECTIVE ACTIONS WERE NEEDED. HUMAN PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: I FAILED TO ENSURE THAT THE RWY I REQUESTED WAS ACTUALLY THE RWY I WANTED TO TKOF FROM. THIS SET UP AN EXPECTATION ON MY PART THAT I WAS CLRED TO TKOF ON A RWY I DON'T NORMALLY USE (RWY 29 IS USUALLY THE FAVORED RWY), INATTN AND OVERCONFIDENCE ON MY PART CAUSED THIS ERROR.
