Departed runway 9L ord. Upon gear retraction, left gear (red) unsafe light remained illuminated. Return to field, gear extended and gear indication went to 3-GREEN (normal) after running non-normal. Landed runway 4R without further incident.

Narrative: DEPARTED RWY 9L ORD. UPON GEAR RETRACTION, L GEAR (RED) UNSAFE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. RETURN TO FIELD, GEAR EXTENDED AND GEAR INDICATION WENT TO 3-GREEN (NORMAL) AFTER RUNNING NON-NORMAL. LANDED RWY 4R WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
