Narrative:
Departure runway 24 teb on the teb 5 SID. Initial level off supposed to be 1500 ft. ATC called traffic at 2000 ft unverified. Traffic noted on TCAS, but got distracted searching visually and climbed 400 ft high. In the process of descending back to 1500 ft MSL when ATC noted altitude deviation. TCAS showed TA but not RA. Never visually acquired traffic. No evasive action taken.
