Narrative:
While being vectored for the approach intercept, I advised the PF that we were too high for the approach intercept. He said we could continue and referenced his FMS showing 20 mi to the airport. Our attention was diverted as to why the ILS DME's were showing approximately 13 mi. We were cleared for the approach and intercepted the localizer but were high on the GS. Over the OM, I again advised the PF we were too high for the approach. He again assured me we 'would make it.' upon picking up ground contact, it was clear that we were too high to land. I instructed the PF to go around. Tower was advised and we were instructed to fly the published missed approach. We were vectored back for another ILS approach and landed. The initial distraction between the FMS distance and raw data DME contributed to fixation on why they were different. The PF also disregarded my 2 attempts for new vectors or go around.

Title: G5 FLT CREW UNSTABILIZED APCH RESULTS IN A MISSED APCH TO MRY.
Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR THE APCH INTERCEPT, I ADVISED THE PF THAT WE WERE TOO HIGH FOR THE APCH INTERCEPT. HE SAID WE COULD CONTINUE AND REFED HIS FMS SHOWING 20 MI TO THE ARPT. OUR ATTN WAS DIVERTED AS TO WHY THE ILS DME'S WERE SHOWING APPROX 13 MI. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH AND INTERCEPTED THE LOC BUT WERE HIGH ON THE GS. OVER THE OM, I AGAIN ADVISED THE PF WE WERE TOO HIGH FOR THE APCH. HE AGAIN ASSURED ME WE 'WOULD MAKE IT.' UPON PICKING UP GND CONTACT, IT WAS CLR THAT WE WERE TOO HIGH TO LAND. I INSTRUCTED THE PF TO GO AROUND. TWR WAS ADVISED AND WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO FLY THE PUBLISHED MISSED APCH. WE WERE VECTORED BACK FOR ANOTHER ILS APCH AND LANDED. THE INITIAL DISTR BTWN THE FMS DISTANCE AND RAW DATA DME CONTRIBUTED TO FIXATION ON WHY THEY WERE DIFFERENT. THE PF ALSO DISREGARDED MY 2 ATTEMPTS FOR NEW VECTORS OR GAR.
