Narrative:
A lack of familiarity with airport layout and markings contributed to a situation in which I taxied beyond a 'hold' line at the conjunction of 2 runways. Instruction to 'taxi to runway 7' was received and during taxi, the location was determined to be at the intersection of taxiway G and a commuter sightseeing exit from the ramp. Upon arrival at taxiway G, I was not able to determine which runway the 'hold' line referred to and while trying to decide, I inadvertently crossed the hold line. No runway area was encroached upon other than the taxiway. I should have been paying closer attention to the markings. The ground controller notified me at the same time I was ready to call the tower for takeoff clearance. I will be more observant about markings in the future when using controled airports as well as busy uncontrolled airports.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE24 PLT HAD A RWY INCURSION AFTER XING THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE AT VGT.
Narrative: A LACK OF FAMILIARITY WITH ARPT LAYOUT AND MARKINGS CONTRIBUTED TO A SIT IN WHICH I TAXIED BEYOND A 'HOLD' LINE AT THE CONJUNCTION OF 2 RWYS. INSTRUCTION TO 'TAXI TO RWY 7' WAS RECEIVED AND DURING TAXI, THE LOCATION WAS DETERMINED TO BE AT THE INTXN OF TXWY G AND A COMMUTER SIGHTSEEING EXIT FROM THE RAMP. UPON ARR AT TXWY G, I WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHICH RWY THE 'HOLD' LINE REFERRED TO AND WHILE TRYING TO DECIDE, I INADVERTENTLY CROSSED THE HOLD LINE. NO RWY AREA WAS ENCROACHED UPON OTHER THAN THE TXWY. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAYING CLOSER ATTN TO THE MARKINGS. THE GND CTLR NOTIFIED ME AT THE SAME TIME I WAS READY TO CALL THE TWR FOR TKOF CLRNC. I WILL BE MORE OBSERVANT ABOUT MARKINGS IN THE FUTURE WHEN USING CTLED ARPTS AS WELL AS BUSY UNCTLED ARPTS.
