Narrative:

Heavy condensation in cockpit. Start up began normally. APU was pwring packs prior to engine start. After engine start, packs were re-engaged. Warm air began pouring out of the vents causing cockpit windows to fog up. I stopped the aircraft on ramp to evaluate the problem when 'heavy' condensation began pouring out of the vents. It was so heavy, we both thought it was smoke, but it did not smell like smoke. Cockpit visibility was about 2 ft. The condensation or whatever it was, was almost odorless, but was warm. We secured both packs. I asked the flight attendant if we there were any problems in the cabin. She answered, no. With the packs secured, the visibility in the cockpit began clearing fairly quickly. After a couple mins, the windows were defogged enough to allow taxiing. After discussing it with my first officer and maintenance, we returned to gate. The #1 pack was MEL'ed and we resumed our flight.

Title: EMJ CREW RETURNED TO THE DEP GATE WITH MOISTURE CONDENSATION ON THE INSIDE OF THE COCKPIT WINDOWS.

Narrative: HVY CONDENSATION IN COCKPIT. START UP BEGAN NORMALLY. APU WAS PWRING PACKS PRIOR TO ENG START. AFTER ENG START, PACKS WERE RE-ENGAGED. WARM AIR BEGAN POURING OUT OF THE VENTS CAUSING COCKPIT WINDOWS TO FOG UP. I STOPPED THE ACFT ON RAMP TO EVALUATE THE PROB WHEN 'HVY' CONDENSATION BEGAN POURING OUT OF THE VENTS. IT WAS SO HVY, WE BOTH THOUGHT IT WAS SMOKE, BUT IT DID NOT SMELL LIKE SMOKE. COCKPIT VISIBILITY WAS ABOUT 2 FT. THE CONDENSATION OR WHATEVER IT WAS, WAS ALMOST ODORLESS, BUT WAS WARM. WE SECURED BOTH PACKS. I ASKED THE FLT ATTENDANT IF WE THERE WERE ANY PROBS IN THE CABIN. SHE ANSWERED, NO. WITH THE PACKS SECURED, THE VISIBILITY IN THE COCKPIT BEGAN CLRING FAIRLY QUICKLY. AFTER A COUPLE MINS, THE WINDOWS WERE DEFOGGED ENOUGH TO ALLOW TAXIING. AFTER DISCUSSING IT WITH MY FO AND MAINT, WE RETURNED TO GATE. THE #1 PACK WAS MEL'ED AND WE RESUMED OUR FLT.
