Narrative:
After a normal departure climbing through about 4;000 ft MSL; we received a smoke toilet caution. The captain was pilot flying. The first officer was pilot not flying. The first officer accomplished the appropriate emergency checklist; the captain declared an emergency with ATC and requested to be vectored to runway xx at ZZZ. While accepting the aircraft earlier; we noted that the aircraft had 2 smoke toilet cautions in the past 2 days; so in some respects; the caution message did not come as a surprise. The flight attendant reported 'mist' and 'condensation' such as that from breath in cold air; but no smell of smoke. After a normal landing; we taxied the aircraft back to the gate. One of the emergency trucks followed us. The flight attendant kept us updated on the situation in the back; but the mist that she reported earlier seemed to have dissipated.
