Narrative:
We were flying the ege FMS cottonwood 2 departure, dated jan/sat/99. Aircraft confign was flaps 5 degrees, autoplt engaged, LNAV, VNAV, V2+15 KTS (159 KIAS). On initial contact with ZDV and climbing through 10000 ft MSL, I asked for direct jessi -- per our procedure. The request was denied. We were told to 'fly the procedure.' this caused a great deal of confusion in the cockpit because our procedure requires us to fly direct to jessi after passing 10000 ft MSL. So what was the procedure if we couldn't fly direct jessi? We erased the direct jessi that we had entered into the FMS. The aircraft continued to track to waypoint F219G. ATC gave us a TA descending into ege. Moments later, we received a TCASII alert 'traffic,' and tried to acquire the traffic visually (without success). When the aircraft reached waypoint F219G, it turned to waypoint F204K which placed us in aspen airspace. ATC then gave us a heading, then direct to jessi and advised us to call them upon arrival into ewr.

Title: CONFUSION REIGNED IN THIS B757 COCKPIT WHEN THE EXPECTED CLRNC WAS NOT GIVEN DUE TO INBOUND TFC. A TCASII TA RESULTED AND THE FLT CREW WAS UNCLR AS TO WHAT WAS EXPECTED OF THEM.
Narrative: WE WERE FLYING THE EGE FMS COTTONWOOD 2 DEP, DATED JAN/SAT/99. ACFT CONFIGN WAS FLAPS 5 DEGS, AUTOPLT ENGAGED, LNAV, VNAV, V2+15 KTS (159 KIAS). ON INITIAL CONTACT WITH ZDV AND CLBING THROUGH 10000 FT MSL, I ASKED FOR DIRECT JESSI -- PER OUR PROC. THE REQUEST WAS DENIED. WE WERE TOLD TO 'FLY THE PROC.' THIS CAUSED A GREAT DEAL OF CONFUSION IN THE COCKPIT BECAUSE OUR PROC REQUIRES US TO FLY DIRECT TO JESSI AFTER PASSING 10000 FT MSL. SO WHAT WAS THE PROC IF WE COULDN'T FLY DIRECT JESSI? WE ERASED THE DIRECT JESSI THAT WE HAD ENTERED INTO THE FMS. THE ACFT CONTINUED TO TRACK TO WAYPOINT F219G. ATC GAVE US A TA DSNDING INTO EGE. MOMENTS LATER, WE RECEIVED A TCASII ALERT 'TFC,' AND TRIED TO ACQUIRE THE TFC VISUALLY (WITHOUT SUCCESS). WHEN THE ACFT REACHED WAYPOINT F219G, IT TURNED TO WAYPOINT F204K WHICH PLACED US IN ASPEN AIRSPACE. ATC THEN GAVE US A HDG, THEN DIRECT TO JESSI AND ADVISED US TO CALL THEM UPON ARR INTO EWR.
