Narrative:
On approach to lax on the paradise 4 arrival, runway 25L ILS. Approaching arnes intersection, we were watching an area of rain on the runway 25L approach course. Tops appeared to be around 14000 ft or 15000 ft. Somewhere around arnes, I heard another aircraft on runway 25L ILS report lightning and moderate rain. I elected to start the APU and turned the ignitors to flight. After fueler intersection, at approximately 6500 ft to 6000 ft, we had a lightning strike, about 3 ft to 4 ft below the first officer's window. Within 20 seconds, the right generator dropped off the bus, autoplt 'B' and autothrottles disengaged. The right egt went to red, fail and temperature froze at 770. The right engine had spooled down and the first officer made rudder inputs to compensate for yaw. About 60 seconds later, we broke out of the clouds. Approximately 60 seconds later and about 2500 ft, the right engine came back to idle and egt went to normal. We landed with flaps 15 degrees in case we had any more engine problems. We used the engine failure on final approach procedure to land the aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 613993: the equipment had been called out.

Title: ON THE PARADISE ARR TO LAX B737 CREW EXPERIENCES LIGHTNING STRIKE AND R ENG OVERTEMP AND FAILURE. DECLARE EMER AND LAND SAFELY.
Narrative: ON APCH TO LAX ON THE PARADISE 4 ARR, RWY 25L ILS. APCHING ARNES INTXN, WE WERE WATCHING AN AREA OF RAIN ON THE RWY 25L APCH COURSE. TOPS APPEARED TO BE AROUND 14000 FT OR 15000 FT. SOMEWHERE AROUND ARNES, I HEARD ANOTHER ACFT ON RWY 25L ILS RPT LIGHTNING AND MODERATE RAIN. I ELECTED TO START THE APU AND TURNED THE IGNITORS TO FLT. AFTER FUELER INTXN, AT APPROX 6500 FT TO 6000 FT, WE HAD A LIGHTNING STRIKE, ABOUT 3 FT TO 4 FT BELOW THE FO'S WINDOW. WITHIN 20 SECONDS, THE R GENERATOR DROPPED OFF THE BUS, AUTOPLT 'B' AND AUTOTHROTTLES DISENGAGED. THE R EGT WENT TO RED, FAIL AND TEMP FROZE AT 770. THE R ENG HAD SPOOLED DOWN AND THE FO MADE RUDDER INPUTS TO COMPENSATE FOR YAW. ABOUT 60 SECONDS LATER, WE BROKE OUT OF THE CLOUDS. APPROX 60 SECONDS LATER AND ABOUT 2500 FT, THE R ENG CAME BACK TO IDLE AND EGT WENT TO NORMAL. WE LANDED WITH FLAPS 15 DEGS IN CASE WE HAD ANY MORE ENG PROBS. WE USED THE ENG FAILURE ON FINAL APCH PROC TO LAND THE ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 613993: THE EQUIP HAD BEEN CALLED OUT.
