Narrative:
I failed to make a handoff on the aircraft. It entered the next sector. The autohdof did not initiate (obviously) and I didn't notice it until the aircraft was 5 mi inside the next sector. I wasn't busy, just distraction with rerouting another aircraft.

Title: ZTL CTLR EXPERIENCED OPDEV FAILING TO MAKE HDOF.
Narrative: I FAILED TO MAKE A HDOF ON THE ACFT. IT ENTERED THE NEXT SECTOR. THE AUTOHDOF DID NOT INITIATE (OBVIOUSLY) AND I DIDN'T NOTICE IT UNTIL THE ACFT WAS 5 MI INSIDE THE NEXT SECTOR. I WASN'T BUSY, JUST DISTR WITH REROUTING ANOTHER ACFT.
