Narrative:
Mr X assigned me to work aircraft X, remove and replace right symbol generator. I approached my crew chief and supervisor mr Y and told both of them that this might be an illegal part, that I needed more time to research. I spoke to mr Z from maintenance control. He was no help. As I was doing my research, my crew chief knew that this may be an illegal part. The part that was removed is not interchangeable with gen 5435. This aircraft needed cpr gen 5125. The ipc showed effectively for both. As I researched more information, indicated part is not interchangeable.
