Narrative:

After reaching cruising altitude, both the captain and first officer saw and smelled smoke in the cockpit. The flight crew followed the emergency procedures as per the QRH. The captain (PNF) then notified ATC and declared an emergency. It was agreed we would divert to other than nearest suitable airport because thunderstorms made it unsuitable. Vectors were given to final approach and the aircraft landed on the runway. An evacuate/evacuation was initiated and all passenger were lead out of the aircraft through the main entrance door by the first officer and flight attendant without injury. The captain shut down and secured the aircraft during the evacuate/evacuation.
