Narrative:

While cruising at 3500 ft, the engine started running rough with the smell of smoke in the cockpit. Approach was contacted and the problem reported. I squawked 7700 on the transponder to establish my exact location. An airport was spotted approximately 3 mi at my 9 O'clock position. I proceeded to the airport and landed without incident. The engine was producing partial power through landing. It was determined that a cylinder had broken and oil was pumping out on the exhaust system.
