Narrative:
Working the following discrepancies on the night of aug/thu/04, into aug/fri/04, at ZZZ hangar line avionics, on aircraft X. Signing off my work, I noticed that there was no downgrade for the autoplt discrepancy. The autoplt discrepancy was an en route MEL on flight abc, I assume from ZZZ1 to ZZZ2 as the flight log block has ZZZ2 and the flight log block has ZZZ1. The technician in ZZZ1 removed the en route MEL crew placard and then assigned xxxxxx, as noted on the log page X. The date in the flight log block is aug/tue/04, and in the flight log block is aug/wed/04. The next log page should have been the downgrade log page, but it is not. The problem is the following. The MEL for 22-1A, states the following requirement: note #5 (-400/-700/-900 aircraft): both channels must be operative in approach modes for autoland operations. The aircraft flew 3 legs with an autoplt 'B' MEL, 22-1A, and no downgrade as required by the MEL.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-400 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH 'B' AUTOPLT DEFERRED AS INOP PER THE MEL. THE ACFT WAS STILL PLACARDED AS IN AUTOLAND STATUS.
Narrative: WORKING THE FOLLOWING DISCREPANCIES ON THE NIGHT OF AUG/THU/04, INTO AUG/FRI/04, AT ZZZ HANGAR LINE AVIONICS, ON ACFT X. SIGNING OFF MY WORK, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO DOWNGRADE FOR THE AUTOPLT DISCREPANCY. THE AUTOPLT DISCREPANCY WAS AN ENRTE MEL ON FLT ABC, I ASSUME FROM ZZZ1 TO ZZZ2 AS THE FLT LOG BLOCK HAS ZZZ2 AND THE FLT LOG BLOCK HAS ZZZ1. THE TECHNICIAN IN ZZZ1 REMOVED THE ENRTE MEL CREW PLACARD AND THEN ASSIGNED XXXXXX, AS NOTED ON THE LOG PAGE X. THE DATE IN THE FLT LOG BLOCK IS AUG/TUE/04, AND IN THE FLT LOG BLOCK IS AUG/WED/04. THE NEXT LOG PAGE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE DOWNGRADE LOG PAGE, BUT IT IS NOT. THE PROB IS THE FOLLOWING. THE MEL FOR 22-1A, STATES THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENT: NOTE #5 (-400/-700/-900 ACFT): BOTH CHANNELS MUST BE OPERATIVE IN APCH MODES FOR AUTOLAND OPS. THE ACFT FLEW 3 LEGS WITH AN AUTOPLT 'B' MEL, 22-1A, AND NO DOWNGRADE AS REQUIRED BY THE MEL.
