Narrative:
While being vectored for approach into lga, the stabilizer trim disengaged and would not reset, per the QRH. We asked for vectors to complete checklists, contact dispatch and maintenance control. Dispatch gave us landing data and concluded that an emergency was not necessary. We tried to troubleshoot the problem with maintenance. Unable to reset the stabilizer trim, we notified ATC that a higher than normal approach speed would be required. We did a flaps 20 degree approach to lga. No emergency was declared. However, lga tower rolled out the trucks. We required no assistance. The landing and approach were without any problems. All vectors and altitude and speeds were complied with. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said a contract mechanic went into the radio compartment and pulled and reset the stabilizer trim computer. After reset the trim computer functioned normally.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CL65 CREW WAS NOT ABLE TO RESET THE STABILIZER TRIM SYS GOING INTO LGA.
Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR APCH INTO LGA, THE STABILIZER TRIM DISENGAGED AND WOULD NOT RESET, PER THE QRH. WE ASKED FOR VECTORS TO COMPLETE CHKLISTS, CONTACT DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL. DISPATCH GAVE US LNDG DATA AND CONCLUDED THAT AN EMER WAS NOT NECESSARY. WE TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROB WITH MAINT. UNABLE TO RESET THE STABILIZER TRIM, WE NOTIFIED ATC THAT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL APCH SPD WOULD BE REQUIRED. WE DID A FLAPS 20 DEG APCH TO LGA. NO EMER WAS DECLARED. HOWEVER, LGA TWR ROLLED OUT THE TRUCKS. WE REQUIRED NO ASSISTANCE. THE LNDG AND APCH WERE WITHOUT ANY PROBS. ALL VECTORS AND ALT AND SPDS WERE COMPLIED WITH. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR SAID A CONTRACT MECH WENT INTO THE RADIO COMPARTMENT AND PULLED AND RESET THE STABILIZER TRIM COMPUTER. AFTER RESET THE TRIM COMPUTER FUNCTIONED NORMALLY.
