Narrative:
While I was in the landing flare on runway 13, a california highway patrol car came from the parking lot and crossed the runway. I had to make a go around to avoid hitting the chp vehicle. After landing, a witness to the event said we missed the vehicle by about 10 ft vertically. I would concur with this. Another witness was a chp pilot. This event took place at ocean ridge airport near gualala, california. Remedy suggestion: 1) this airport has no warnings to or about vehicle traffic crossing the runway. Suggest signs be posted! 2) chp drivers should be informed as to looking for aircraft before crossing the runway at uncontrolled airports. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: this airport does not have any fences to protect the runway. Reporter noted this is a common occurrence. The airport manager has been informed with other occurrences, and has not yet taken any action.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DIAMOND DA20 PLT ALMOST HIT A CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL CAR WHEN IT CROSSED IN FRONT OF A LNDG ACFT.
Narrative: WHILE I WAS IN THE LNDG FLARE ON RWY 13, A CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL CAR CAME FROM THE PARKING LOT AND CROSSED THE RWY. I HAD TO MAKE A GO AROUND TO AVOID HITTING THE CHP VEHICLE. AFTER LNDG, A WITNESS TO THE EVENT SAID WE MISSED THE VEHICLE BY ABOUT 10 FT VERTICALLY. I WOULD CONCUR WITH THIS. ANOTHER WITNESS WAS A CHP PLT. THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE AT OCEAN RIDGE ARPT NEAR GUALALA, CALIFORNIA. REMEDY SUGGESTION: 1) THIS ARPT HAS NO WARNINGS TO OR ABOUT VEHICLE TFC XING THE RWY. SUGGEST SIGNS BE POSTED! 2) CHP DRIVERS SHOULD BE INFORMED AS TO LOOKING FOR ACFT BEFORE XING THE RWY AT UNCONTROLLED ARPTS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THIS ARPT DOES NOT HAVE ANY FENCES TO PROTECT THE RWY. RPTR NOTED THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. THE ARPT MANAGER HAS BEEN INFORMED WITH OTHER OCCURRENCES, AND HAS NOT YET TAKEN ANY ACTION.
