Narrative:
Problem: I landed on a closed runway (runway 20) at fit. I neglected to obtain a preflight briefing before departing. I did check surface analysis charts, etc. There was a NOTAM for a temporarily closed runway at fit. There was no mention of the closed runway on the ASOS. The runway had been marked with a small 'X' between the digits of the runway number. Neither I nor my friend (another pilot sitting in the right seat) saw the 'X.' the runway had been physically blocked off with a wire fence just before the intersecting runway. The fence was not visible on approach. Although my failure to obtain a preflight briefing was an obvious problem, I was not concerned because of the great WX. I will be sure to check in the future. The runway closure marking did not conform to the aim and really was not visible from approach (unless, I suppose, you were looking for it). The fence constituted a clear danger -- it should have been marked to make it more visible.

Title: PLT LANDS HIS BE33 ON TEMPORARILY CLOSED RWY 20 AT FIT.
Narrative: PROB: I LANDED ON A CLOSED RWY (RWY 20) AT FIT. I NEGLECTED TO OBTAIN A PREFLT BRIEFING BEFORE DEPARTING. I DID CHK SURFACE ANALYSIS CHARTS, ETC. THERE WAS A NOTAM FOR A TEMPORARILY CLOSED RWY AT FIT. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THE CLOSED RWY ON THE ASOS. THE RWY HAD BEEN MARKED WITH A SMALL 'X' BTWN THE DIGITS OF THE RWY NUMBER. NEITHER I NOR MY FRIEND (ANOTHER PLT SITTING IN THE R SEAT) SAW THE 'X.' THE RWY HAD BEEN PHYSICALLY BLOCKED OFF WITH A WIRE FENCE JUST BEFORE THE INTERSECTING RWY. THE FENCE WAS NOT VISIBLE ON APCH. ALTHOUGH MY FAILURE TO OBTAIN A PREFLT BRIEFING WAS AN OBVIOUS PROB, I WAS NOT CONCERNED BECAUSE OF THE GREAT WX. I WILL BE SURE TO CHK IN THE FUTURE. THE RWY CLOSURE MARKING DID NOT CONFORM TO THE AIM AND REALLY WAS NOT VISIBLE FROM APCH (UNLESS, I SUPPOSE, YOU WERE LOOKING FOR IT). THE FENCE CONSTITUTED A CLR DANGER -- IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MARKED TO MAKE IT MORE VISIBLE.
