Narrative:

Cleared for takeoff runway 35L. Turn requested, but I don't think I ever heard that 'left turn approval.' I knew of someone coming in from northwest. I turned to bearing of 320 degrees after noise abatement. I saw other low wing airplane at about 1500 ft. I stopped my climb out at 1200 ft and passed underneath other plane. No warning from tower. Other pilot seemed quite upset. Stated to tower 'are you talking with that cessna who just passed underneath me.' I usually ask a second time as I'm starting takeoff roll, 'ok for left turn,' but did not do so this time. I think tower missed potential conflict, although I had other plane in view and avoided conflict.

Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 35L. TURN REQUESTED, BUT I DON'T THINK I EVER HEARD THAT 'L TURN APPROVAL.' I KNEW OF SOMEONE COMING IN FROM NW. I TURNED TO BEARING OF 320 DEGS AFTER NOISE ABATEMENT. I SAW OTHER LOW WING AIRPLANE AT ABOUT 1500 FT. I STOPPED MY CLBOUT AT 1200 FT AND PASSED UNDERNEATH OTHER PLANE. NO WARNING FROM TWR. OTHER PLT SEEMED QUITE UPSET. STATED TO TWR 'ARE YOU TALKING WITH THAT CESSNA WHO JUST PASSED UNDERNEATH ME.' I USUALLY ASK A SECOND TIME AS I'M STARTING TKOF ROLL, 'OK FOR L TURN,' BUT DID NOT DO SO THIS TIME. I THINK TWR MISSED POTENTIAL CONFLICT, ALTHOUGH I HAD OTHER PLANE IN VIEW AND AVOIDED CONFLICT.
