Narrative:
The most challenging aspect of operating at slc is taxiing on the ramp near 'east' gates. There are apron location points consisting of white numbers on a square blue background. There are apron location deicing points consisting of black numbers on a circular yellow background. Oddly, these are charted as being triangular, but the ones I've seen are yellow and circular. Many have had the black numbers spray painted over in yellow presumably to delete the spot, yet they are all still depicted on the chart 10-9B, dated fri/mar/02. Ramp location points (the blue squares) #27 and 28 have been renamed #20 and 21. This change has not been depicted on chart 10-9B, dated fri/mar/02 or on chart 10-9D, dated fri/jun/04. There are more yellow taxi lines painted on the ramp that split off in multiple directions for various gates, but these are not depicted on any chart and it's difficult to initially determine which line will take you to what spot or gate. Most aircraft don't follow them anyway. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter indicated that the triangle spots are deicing spots, and that the square spots are ramp entry spots. He said in reality, they use all spots for entry and exit. His biggest concern is that the old spots 27 and 28 are now painted on the ground as spots 20 and 21. Since this is the case, he would like it to indicate this on the 10-9D and 10-9B charts. The reporter also said that there are numerous taxi lines in this area and that it is very hard to determine just what line to take. If these lines were on a chart, it would help matters.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A CL-65 FLT CREW NOTES THAT SLC RAMP SPOTS 27 AND 28 HAVE BEEN RENAMED 20 AND 21. THIS CHANGE IS NOT DEPICTED ON THE 10-9B AND 10-9D PAGES.
Narrative: THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF OPERATING AT SLC IS TAXIING ON THE RAMP NEAR 'E' GATES. MOST ACFT DON'T FOLLOW THEM ANYWAY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR INDICATED THAT THE TRIANGLE SPOTS ARE DEICING SPOTS, AND THAT THE SQUARE SPOTS ARE RAMP ENTRY SPOTS. HE SAID IN REALITY, THEY USE ALL SPOTS FOR ENTRY AND EXIT. HIS BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT THE OLD SPOTS 27 AND 28 ARE NOW PAINTED ON THE GND AS SPOTS 20 AND 21. SINCE THIS IS THE CASE, HE WOULD LIKE IT TO INDICATE THIS ON THE 10-9D AND 10-9B CHARTS. THE RPTR ALSO SAID THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS TAXI LINES IN THIS AREA AND THAT IT IS VERY HARD TO DETERMINE JUST WHAT LINE TO TAKE. IF THESE LINES WERE ON A CHART, IT WOULD HELP MATTERS.
