Narrative:
We were told to hold short of taxiway left in sna. The taxiway is often used to keep people from taxiing in the way of the airlines pushing off their gates. The taxiway needs to have more apparent signs. We need to be more aware of our taxi instructions. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the pilot stated that the actual end of taxiway C appeared to not end at taxiway left but beyond taxiway left. Because the crew was looking for the end of taxiway C and the intersection of taxiway left they simply missed the taxiway left sign. The pilots realized simultaneously with ground control what had occurred and as the crew called ground, ground asked them if they realized that they had rolled through taxiway left. The pilot told me he later called ground control on the landline again apologizing for his lapse. Ground indicated they were not pursuing action. When I asked if the sign or taxiway markings were confusing or not salient enough for the environment, he said that he was not sure. In his mind he did not remember seeing the taxiway left sign.
