Narrative:
Engine failure during climb out of class D airport. PIC declared emergency on 121.5 and squawked 7700. Engine was producing idle thrust. PIC able to dead-stick aircraft to nearby grass strip. No injuries, no damage to aircraft. PIC credits immediate action and knowledge of the surrounding geography as contributing factor to successful outcome. Recommend all pilots be familiar with their abc's (airspeed, best landing spot, checklist) in event of emergency.

Title: C172 PLT HAD A FORCED LNDG AFTER THE ENG FAILED.
Narrative: ENG FAILURE DURING CLB OUT OF CLASS D ARPT. PIC DECLARED EMER ON 121.5 AND SQUAWKED 7700. ENG WAS PRODUCING IDLE THRUST. PIC ABLE TO DEAD-STICK ACFT TO NEARBY GRASS STRIP. NO INJURIES, NO DAMAGE TO ACFT. PIC CREDITS IMMEDIATE ACTION AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE SURROUNDING GEOGRAPHY AS CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME.
