Narrative:

Taxied for takeoff runway 30 at lgb. Cleared runway 30 via txwys C, left, hold short of runway 25L, I asked controller if he wanted us to move out of the way of another aircraft as we had a flow control time. Controller said he'd take us across runway 30 to taxiway D for that purpose. Just before we got to taxiway left, I received clearance to hold short of runway 30 at taxiway L3. I was anticipating crossing runway 30 but had missed the half left onto taxiway left in that confusing area where txwys C, J, and left meet. First officer queried taxiing instructions and I sensed that I was out of position and stopped short of runway 30, but possibly past the hold short line on runway 30. I then saw a B757 aircraft on runway 30 with his speed brakes up aborting. Do not think I heard instructions to stop until after we had stopped, but we were on ground control frequency.

Title: B737 CREW AT LGB TAXIING FOR TKOF CROSS RWY HOLD SHORT LINES RESULTING IN THE ABORT OF AN ACFT DEPARTING.

Narrative: TAXIED FOR TKOF RWY 30 AT LGB. CLRED RWY 30 VIA TXWYS C, L, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25L, I ASKED CTLR IF HE WANTED US TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF ANOTHER ACFT AS WE HAD A FLOW CTL TIME. CTLR SAID HE'D TAKE US ACROSS RWY 30 TO TXWY D FOR THAT PURPOSE. JUST BEFORE WE GOT TO TXWY L, I RECEIVED CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 30 AT TXWY L3. I WAS ANTICIPATING XING RWY 30 BUT HAD MISSED THE HALF L ONTO TXWY L IN THAT CONFUSING AREA WHERE TXWYS C, J, AND L MEET. FO QUERIED TAXIING INSTRUCTIONS AND I SENSED THAT I WAS OUT OF POS AND STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 30, BUT POSSIBLY PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE ON RWY 30. I THEN SAW A B757 ACFT ON RWY 30 WITH HIS SPD BRAKES UP ABORTING. DO NOT THINK I HEARD INSTRUCTIONS TO STOP UNTIL AFTER WE HAD STOPPED, BUT WE WERE ON GND CTL FREQ.
