Narrative:
On radar vector from ashville approach, was told to descend to 5500 ft MSL for vectors to ILS runway 16 avl. We descended to 5500 ft and were at 5500 ft for approximately 2 mins. GPWS alert 'terrain, pull up.' we climbed to 6000 ft MSL and advised avl approach that we had a GPWS terrain alert and we climbed to 6000 ft. Avl approach advised us that 4 NM from our position east was rising terrain and that is what probably set off our GPWS. We were instructed to descend to 4600 ft and intercept ILS runway 16. There were no other events on GPWS. The warning that we received was only 2 seconds in duration.

Title: C560 EXPERIENCED GPWS WHILE ON VECTORS TO ILS RWY 16 AT AVL AT CTLR ASSIGNED MVA.
Narrative: ON RADAR VECTOR FROM ASHVILLE APCH, WAS TOLD TO DSND TO 5500 FT MSL FOR VECTORS TO ILS RWY 16 AVL. WE DSNDED TO 5500 FT AND WERE AT 5500 FT FOR APPROX 2 MINS. GPWS ALERT 'TERRAIN, PULL UP.' WE CLBED TO 6000 FT MSL AND ADVISED AVL APCH THAT WE HAD A GPWS TERRAIN ALERT AND WE CLBED TO 6000 FT. AVL APCH ADVISED US THAT 4 NM FROM OUR POS E WAS RISING TERRAIN AND THAT IS WHAT PROBABLY SET OFF OUR GPWS. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO DSND TO 4600 FT AND INTERCEPT ILS RWY 16. THERE WERE NO OTHER EVENTS ON GPWS. THE WARNING THAT WE RECEIVED WAS ONLY 2 SECONDS IN DURATION.
