Narrative:
In changing the 'B' sump gasket; the WX was a problem as it was raining; the sump is in a tight area and requires a slow pace of work. I was assigned job which required the 'B' sump gasket replaced. I changed the gasket and left the job open for engine run and leak check. The aircraft was a DC10. I believe; due to the slow pace of the work necessary to do the job; WX conditions should be taken into account and prepared for (ie; a tarp over engine). I believe the problem was caused by gasket material left on the 'B' sump flange; from the old gasket. A solution to the problem I feel would be to remove the complete line to facilitate cleaning and reinstallation of new gasket.
