Narrative:
Approximately 10 mins after takeoff; the #1 flight attendant reported smoke coming from the forward galley oven. She turned off the oven but she still had smoke coming from the oven and thought that it could possibly be some sort of electrical fire. The captain declared an emergency and we returned to ZZZ. The smoke level did not require any emergency checklist action. Normal checklists were run and landing was uneventful. Crash fire rescue equipment followed us to the gate and were standing by at the jetbridge and confirmed there was not a fire in the galley after arrival at the gate. Throughout the descent; the smoke continued to decrease as the oven cooled. Maintenance reported that there was a buildup of grease or food deposits in the oven which caused the smoke. The oven was placarded out of use until it could be cleaned. Landing was under maximum weight for landing. After signoff by maintenance and a check by the fire chief; we refueled and continued to ZZZ2.
