Narrative:
On feb/sat/05 in the late afternoon; I was departing the ramp at mkc. The area in question is intersection H1. The painted markings on the ground are faded; and I do not believe signage is up to PAR. I did not see the hold short markings for runway 19. The distance from ramp to taxiway to runway 19 is very close and good signage is needed. I stopped the aircraft and asked the tower if I could make a 180 degree turn and return to taxiway G; a 180 degree turn was approved. My guess; the tower thought; no harm; no foul and nothing more was said. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he is familiar with the airport and feels that the area where taxiway G intersects with taxiway H1 is the 'world's widest taxiway.' he admitted that he was somewhat inattentive in that area on this particular flight; but once he crossed taxiway G; his reference was lost until he was entering runway 1/19. The reporter's suggestion would be to remove taxiway H1.

Title: C182 PLT BELIEVES HE CREATED A RWY INCURSION ON MKC RWY 1-19 AT TXWY H1.
Narrative: ON FEB/SAT/05 IN THE LATE AFTERNOON; I WAS DEPARTING THE RAMP AT MKC. THE AREA IN QUESTION IS INTXN H1. THE PAINTED MARKINGS ON THE GND ARE FADED; AND I DO NOT BELIEVE SIGNAGE IS UP TO PAR. I DID NOT SEE THE HOLD SHORT MARKINGS FOR RWY 19. THE DISTANCE FROM RAMP TO TXWY TO RWY 19 IS VERY CLOSE AND GOOD SIGNAGE IS NEEDED. I STOPPED THE ACFT AND ASKED THE TWR IF I COULD MAKE A 180 DEG TURN AND RETURN TO TXWY G; A 180 DEG TURN WAS APPROVED. MY GUESS; THE TWR THOUGHT; NO HARM; NO FOUL AND NOTHING MORE WAS SAID. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE IS FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND FEELS THAT THE AREA WHERE TXWY G INTERSECTS WITH TXWY H1 IS THE 'WORLD'S WIDEST TXWY.' HE ADMITTED THAT HE WAS SOMEWHAT INATTENTIVE IN THAT AREA ON THIS PARTICULAR FLT; BUT ONCE HE CROSSED TXWY G; HIS REF WAS LOST UNTIL HE WAS ENTERING RWY 1/19. THE RPTR'S SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO REMOVE TXWY H1.
