Narrative:
I was called out because external power couldn't be hooked up. Found that 2 pins on receptacle were bent. Placarded external power per MEL 24-3; but did not read MEL correctly; and did not accomplish mpm 24-3 section ii; C. Notified avionics for follow-up. This task is usually handled by our avionics crew; so I was not familiar with the compliance requirements for this MEL.

Title: AN MD80 WAS FOUND TO HAVE A DAMAGED GND PWR RECEPTACLE. ITEM DEFERRED PER MEL BUT REQUIRED SPECIAL MEL PROCS NOT ACCOMPLISHED.
Narrative: I WAS CALLED OUT BECAUSE EXTERNAL PWR COULDN'T BE HOOKED UP. FOUND THAT 2 PINS ON RECEPTACLE WERE BENT.
