Narrative:
On mar/thu/05; 2 other pilots and myself were on our way to ZZZ2 from ZZZ1. Over abc; we had our right engine fail. So we declared an emergency; diverted to ZZZ3. Once safe on the ground; we continued to troubleshoot the problem; so we could give a mechanic some idea what needed to be fixed. While looking through the poh; we noticed that the cover only had the tail number of the aircraft and no serial number. So this was not a valid poh. I am concerned with this because I had been flying this plane for about 4 days without the required documents on board. The only thing that can be done to solve this problem is to do a more detailed preflight. I admit I was in a hurry during preflight to get going on this trip. If I would have been ramp checked during this trip; the consequences would have been bad. In the future; I will have to take more time and make sure the aircraft I am flying has all required documentation.
