Narrative:
We departed ZZZ on runway 18L and right after departure; the flight attendant reported a loud noise coming from the L1 door and that the passenger were reporting the smell of smoke throughout the cabin. So I declared an emergency and landed overweight with 142700 pounds. We called out the emergency equipment and had them inspect our aircraft after we had a normal landing. I completed the required logbook entries. I called the chief pilot on duty and xxxxx congratulated us on a job well done.
