Narrative:
Received letter of investigation from the FAA on jun/fri/05 noting that I had installed improper part on aircraft on may/thu/05. The part was an ammeter. On may/thu/05 shortly after the start of shift; maintenance control called to remind us that they had shipped a part (ammeter) for aircraft X and it had to be installed when it arrived so that an MEL could be cleared. Maintenance control had; as they always do; researched the needed part and shipped the part to ZZZ already labeled for MEL on aircraft X. I relied on maintenance control's expertise for the right part to be issued; as they always do. The order was to use the part that had been shipped to clear the MEL.

Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT AMMETER INSTALLED. THE TECHNICIAN WAS ADVISED TO INSTALL AN AMMETER THAT WAS SENT BY MAINT CTL FOR INSTALLATION AND CLR THE OPEN DEFERRED ITEM.
Narrative: RECEIVED LETTER OF INVESTIGATION FROM THE FAA ON JUN/FRI/05 NOTING THAT I HAD INSTALLED IMPROPER PART ON ACFT ON MAY/THU/05. THE PART WAS AN AMMETER. MAINT CTL HAD; AS THEY ALWAYS DO; RESEARCHED THE NEEDED PART AND SHIPPED THE PART TO ZZZ ALREADY LABELED FOR MEL ON ACFT X. I RELIED ON MAINT CTL'S EXPERTISE FOR THE RIGHT PART TO BE ISSUED; AS THEY ALWAYS DO. THE ORDER WAS TO USE THE PART THAT HAD BEEN SHIPPED TO CLR THE MEL.
