Narrative:

A technician on mar/thu/05 performed a postflt inspection on a hawker 400XP; he found the tail navigation light to be inoperative. He called FBO maintenance to order the part. On mar/fri/05 the part arrived at ZZZ at XA30. I looked at the part number of the svcable part sent; it was X. The part effective for that aircraft that was ordered was not sent. I called maintenance control to let them know that the part I received was the wrong part number. He said he would get back to me after he talked to the hawker representative. While waiting for the call from maintenance control; I called the company X representative to let him know about the problem with the part. Maintenance control called the maintenance control; then called me back later and said it was ok to install the light. I installed the light in accordance with hawker 400XP maintenance manual and the installation guide for the light from company Y. The light operations checked good. When faxing paperwork to the return to service department; they called me and said their computer would not release the aircraft due to the part number from the light installed. I told the return service personnel I was told in the morning it was effective for the aircraft from maintenance control personnel; the hawker representative; and the company X representative. The return to service personnel said that he was going to call the hawker representative; and the company X representative. The return to service personnel said that he was going to call the hawker representative to verify the part number of the light and let them know that their computer would not accept the part number of the light for the aircraft to be released. The return to service personnel called me back on mar/fri/05 telling me the aircraft was released. The aircraft tail navigation light was changed the following week with the correct effective part.
