Narrative:
During pre-service 1 check engine #1 needed oil servicing; disconnected oil tank vent line to facilitate proper servicing; did not reconnect line. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the left engine; when mounted on the firewall; is tilted and when attempting to fill the oil tank to full; the vent line must be removed to prevent the oil from flowing back out. The carrier has now reportedly issued new oil servicing rules to fill the oil tank to the 2 qt below full level and the required oil servicing period from daily checks to every two days. The oil servicing procedures reportedly never addressed the oil vent line problem and most technicians serviced the tank to full per the procedures but only by disconnecting the vent line.

Narrative: DURING PRE-SERVICE 1 CHK ENG #1 NEEDED OIL SERVICING; DISCONNECTED OIL TANK VENT LINE TO FACILITATE PROPER SERVICING; DID NOT RECONNECT LINE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE L ENG; WHEN MOUNTED ON THE FIREWALL; IS TILTED AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE OIL TANK TO FULL; THE VENT LINE MUST BE REMOVED TO PREVENT THE OIL FROM FLOWING BACK OUT. THE CARRIER HAS NOW REPORTEDLY ISSUED NEW OIL SERVICING RULES TO FILL THE OIL TANK TO THE 2 QT BELOW FULL LEVEL AND THE REQUIRED OIL SERVICING PERIOD FROM DAILY CHKS TO EVERY TWO DAYS. THE OIL SERVICING PROCS REPORTEDLY NEVER ADDRESSED THE OIL VENT LINE PROB AND MOST TECHNICIANS SERVICED THE TANK TO FULL PER THE PROCS BUT ONLY BY DISCONNECTING THE VENT LINE.
