Narrative:
Soon after blocking in and completing the parking checklist; I was summoned by the 'a' flight attendant to the cabin. I was shown door 1L partially opened with the slide pack sitting on the door sill; disarmed and blocking the doorway. I informed him that I would take care of it. Upon further inspection it was plainly obvious that the entire slide pack had inadvertently fallen out of its case. I then lifted the pack cover and discovered the entire slide pack assembly was free of the aircraft. With a partially blocked door and passenger waiting to disembark my aircraft; I elected to move the now loose slide pack to the jetway so as to allow the passenger on the aircraft to disembark. An appropriate ACARS message was sent followed by a phone call to station maintenance.
