Narrative:

On an RNAV departure from runway 35L; shortly after takeoff departure gave us a 090 degree heading taking us off our RNAV departure. After about ten miles we were given another vector and then given direct clare and resume the departure. We selected clare and began to proceed direct at which time all points fell out of the GPS. Reselected clare and continued but the rest of the departure points fell out again. Started rebuilding departure and flight plan; but upon crossing clare were called by center and asked if we were turning to join the rest of the departure. Answered no because the rest of the departure was missing and it appeared we were going to baton rouge. Center gave us a vector until we were able to reestablish the flight plan and continue on our normal navigation.

Title: MD80 ON RNAV SID FROM DFW LOSES ASSOCIATED TRANSITION WAYPOINTS WHEN GIVEN CLRNC DIRECT TO CLARE INSTEAD OF FLYING CHARTED TRACK.

Narrative: ON AN RNAV DEP FROM RWY 35L; SHORTLY AFTER TKOF DEP GAVE US A 090 DEG HDG TAKING US OFF OUR RNAV DEP. AFTER ABOUT TEN MILES WE WERE GIVEN ANOTHER VECTOR AND THEN GIVEN DIRECT CLARE AND RESUME THE DEP. WE SELECTED CLARE AND BEGAN TO PROCEED DIRECT AT WHICH TIME ALL POINTS FELL OUT OF THE GPS. RESELECTED CLARE AND CONTINUED BUT THE REST OF THE DEP POINTS FELL OUT AGAIN. STARTED REBUILDING DEP AND FLT PLAN; BUT UPON CROSSING CLARE WERE CALLED BY CTR AND ASKED IF WE WERE TURNING TO JOIN THE REST OF THE DEP. ANSWERED NO BECAUSE THE REST OF THE DEP WAS MISSING AND IT APPEARED WE WERE GOING TO BATON ROUGE. CTR GAVE US A VECTOR UNTIL WE WERE ABLE TO REESTABLISH THE FLT PLAN AND CONTINUE ON OUR NORMAL NAV.
