Narrative:
On departure from the ilm airport; the aircraft experienced total electrical failure. After assessing the circumstances surrounding the flight; such as familiar terrain; day VFR conditions; and no further system problems; I opted to continue the flight VFR to the planned destination. I called FSS via cell phone and canceled IFR. In retrospect; I feel that returning to ilm to land without radio contact or landing at an uncontrolled airport en route would have been a better course of action.
