Narrative:
While climbing out of det; I was programming the GPS after being cleared to a fix. I missed the assigned level off of 7000 ft. At 7300 ft; the altitude alert sounded and I descended back to 7000 ft. There was no conflict and the controller said nothing. My copilot was unfamiliar with the GPS. In the future I need to make sure that someone is watching the instruments while the other pilot programs the GPS.
