Narrative:
While training on a radar departure position; I was involved in instruction on the position when 2 aircraft were observed on a converging course at 4000 ft. Aircraft were turned away from each other and then visual separation was used. Less time instructing and more time scanning may have prevented this situation.

Title: GSO CTLR EXPERIENCED OPERROR AT 4000 FT WITH 2 CONVERGING ACFT WHILE PROVIDING INSTRUCTION TO A DEVELOPMENTAL CTLR.
Narrative: WHILE TRAINING ON A RADAR DEP POS; I WAS INVOLVED IN INSTRUCTION ON THE POS WHEN 2 ACFT WERE OBSERVED ON A CONVERGING COURSE AT 4000 FT. ACFT WERE TURNED AWAY FROM EACH OTHER AND THEN VISUAL SEPARATION WAS USED. LESS TIME INSTRUCTING AND MORE TIME SCANNING MAY HAVE PREVENTED THIS SITUATION.
