Narrative:

After departing lga; we were given a clearance of 'climb to 17000 ft.' the departure controller also warned of 'traffic at 12 O'clock position descending to 14000 ft.' I answered; 'searching.' I never saw the traffic. We received an RA approaching 13000 ft commanding a descent. At the same time departure control gave us a right turn to 300 degrees. Captain followed the descend command and began a turn to 300 degrees. While continuing to look for the traffic. I confirmed the clearance to turn right to 300 degrees and notified departure that we were responding to 'TCAS' and descending. The other aircraft spotted us; and when departure control determined we were clear we were told to turn back to lanna and climb to 17000 ft. The rest of the trip was uneventful.
