Narrative:
At the end of an 18 hour duty day; which was 'masked' by a hotel room in the middle of the day; we were taxiing to gate at dca. First officer turned off the right generator on my command in preparation for a single engine taxi. After the 3 min cooling period; he said 'are you ready for me to take #2 engine?' I said 'yes.' he then inadvertently shut down the #1 engine and we lost electric power (except battery). After a short delay he was able to reset the #2 generator and we then started the APU in order to have power at the gate to allow us to shut down the right #2 engine immediately. This was after flying a poorly built trip pairing which had us wake at XA30 on day #1; wake XC15 on day #2; wake XC30 on day #3 and then fly 19 hours 15 mins on day #3.
