Narrative:
While we taxied to the runway; I was literally thrown; right arm first; into the base of the #2 jumpseat. I tried to break the fall; but couldn't. We were taxiing fast and making quick turns as we headed to the runway. I caught myself a couple of times but the third turn threw me with little to grab on to. I flew into the base of my jumpseat; elbow first with the weight of my body slamming the same spot. I immediately iced my arm; let the #4 flight attendant do the safety checks and strapped myself into my jumpseat (immediate takeoff following my fall) minus my right shoulder harness. After 1 hour into the flight; I called the pilots to remove me from my next flight since I could no longer evacuate/evacuation an airplane. The pain was not subsiding. I was also having trouble making a fist and pressing my forefinger and thumb together and felt queasy in my stomach. The captain acknowledged that he was taxiing aggressively. There have been other times I have experienced this erratic type of taxiing to the takeoff runway with other pilots. We should be warned of a quick taxi so flight attendants can take precautions; such as taking a seat and strapping in!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A FLT ATTENDANT ON A B737 WAS INJURED IN A FALL DURING A FAST TAXI TO THE TKOF RWY.
Narrative: WHILE WE TAXIED TO THE RWY; I WAS LITERALLY THROWN; R ARM FIRST; INTO THE BASE OF THE #2 JUMPSEAT. I TRIED TO BREAK THE FALL; BUT COULDN'T. WE WERE TAXIING FAST AND MAKING QUICK TURNS AS WE HEADED TO THE RWY. I CAUGHT MYSELF A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT THE THIRD TURN THREW ME WITH LITTLE TO GRAB ON TO. I FLEW INTO THE BASE OF MY JUMPSEAT; ELBOW FIRST WITH THE WT OF MY BODY SLAMMING THE SAME SPOT. I IMMEDIATELY ICED MY ARM; LET THE #4 FLT ATTENDANT DO THE SAFETY CHKS AND STRAPPED MYSELF INTO MY JUMPSEAT (IMMEDIATE TKOF FOLLOWING MY FALL) MINUS MY R SHOULDER HARNESS. AFTER 1 HR INTO THE FLT; I CALLED THE PLTS TO REMOVE ME FROM MY NEXT FLT SINCE I COULD NO LONGER EVAC AN AIRPLANE. THE PAIN WAS NOT SUBSIDING. I WAS ALSO HAVING TROUBLE MAKING A FIST AND PRESSING MY FOREFINGER AND THUMB TOGETHER AND FELT QUEASY IN MY STOMACH. THE CAPT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HE WAS TAXIING AGGRESSIVELY. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER TIMES I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ERRATIC TYPE OF TAXIING TO THE TKOF RWY WITH OTHER PLTS. WE SHOULD BE WARNED OF A QUICK TAXI SO FLT ATTENDANTS CAN TAKE PRECAUTIONS; SUCH AS TAKING A SEAT AND STRAPPING IN!
