Narrative:
This report concerns inaccuracies in a commercial terminal area chart -- no actual incident occurred. Examine the 10-1 terminal area chart for vancouver; back course. In the southwest sector; just north of the yyj VOR; some terrain shading and contours are missing: on salt spring island (yyj 360 degree heading 5 DME); the terrain is well in excess of 2000 ft. Contour and shading are required to reflect this. In the vicinity of mount hall (yyj 285 degree radial; 23 DME) the terrain is well in excess of 4000 ft. Contour and shading are missing. You know; a few yrs ago a controller radar-vectored a light aircraft into a hill on vancouver island because he wasn't paying attention to the terrain elevation there. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he was concerned that there was not contour shading on the 10-1 chart and felt that if someone used the chart for navigation that a possible terrain issue could arise. He did note that the 10-1 did have contour lines but no contour shading.

Title: B737-300 PLT IS CONCERNED THAT THE 10-1 TERMINAL AREA CHART FOR CYVR DOES NOT INCLUDE TERRAIN CONTOUR SHADING.
Narrative: THIS RPT CONCERNS INACCURACIES IN A COMMERCIAL TERMINAL AREA CHART -- NO ACTUAL INCIDENT OCCURRED. EXAMINE THE 10-1 TERMINAL AREA CHART FOR VANCOUVER; BC. IN THE SW SECTOR; JUST N OF THE YYJ VOR; SOME TERRAIN SHADING AND CONTOURS ARE MISSING: ON SALT SPRING ISLAND (YYJ 360 DEG HDG 5 DME); THE TERRAIN IS WELL IN EXCESS OF 2000 FT. CONTOUR AND SHADING ARE REQUIRED TO REFLECT THIS. IN THE VICINITY OF MOUNT HALL (YYJ 285 DEG RADIAL; 23 DME) THE TERRAIN IS WELL IN EXCESS OF 4000 FT. CONTOUR AND SHADING ARE MISSING. YOU KNOW; A FEW YRS AGO A CTLR RADAR-VECTORED A LIGHT ACFT INTO A HILL ON VANCOUVER ISLAND BECAUSE HE WASN'T PAYING ATTN TO THE TERRAIN ELEVATION THERE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE WAS CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS NOT CONTOUR SHADING ON THE 10-1 CHART AND FELT THAT IF SOMEONE USED THE CHART FOR NAV THAT A POSSIBLE TERRAIN ISSUE COULD ARISE. HE DID NOTE THAT THE 10-1 DID HAVE CONTOUR LINES BUT NO CONTOUR SHADING.
