Narrative:
Captain and first officer reviewed aircraft maintenance log in ZZZ during preflight. Read write-ups for FMS #2 and FMS #1. MEL 34-45 for FMS #2 was initiated jun/sun/06 (expires jun/wed/06) stated that one FMS must be operational. MEL 34-46 for FMS #1 was initiated jun/fri/06 (during a previous flight and expires jul/mon/06) stated that both FMS's could be non operational. During preflight; crew assumed MEL 34-46 was the governing MEL and accepted the aircraft. Upon arrival ZZZ1 and after conferring with maintenance control and ZZZ chief pilots; it was determined that MEL 34-45 was not properly cleared. Maintenance control contacted ZZZ1 contract maintenance to clear MEL 34-45 and add FMS #2 to MEL 34-46.
