Narrative:
Flying through a low mountain pass with approximately 15 mph winds; after clearing pass started 200 FPM rate of descent attempting to land in a field when a rotor brought the balloon down at a rate of 600 FPM. On impact pilot was thrown from the basket; the balloon then became airborne and returned to the ground.

Title: HOT AIR BALLOON PLT HAS HARD LNDG.
Narrative: FLYING THROUGH A LOW MOUNTAIN PASS WITH APPROX 15 MPH WINDS; AFTER CLRING PASS STARTED 200 FPM RATE OF DSCNT ATTEMPTING TO LAND IN A FIELD WHEN A ROTOR BROUGHT THE BALLOON DOWN AT A RATE OF 600 FPM. ON IMPACT PLT WAS THROWN FROM THE BASKET; THE BALLOON THEN BECAME AIRBORNE AND RETURNED TO THE GND.
