Narrative:

Our original plane had been canceled and we had been handed a routine overnight check on another aircraft. I think it came in around XA00. Before we had a chance to get that one; the supervisor had told us to go pick up aircraft X from the hangar; they had just finished an engine change. So we headed down to pick it up. When we got there; we found out there was still a lot of work to be done on it. We hooked it up and brought it back to the gate where we finished off the work. One of the things that needed to be done was the oxygen. I said I would take care of it. I pulled the bottle off the aircraft and went to get a full one. I got one off the rack and installed it; finished my paperwork and turned it in. I try to read all the maintenance pubs that come out; but this one had come out in 2002 and I went to the line after 10 yrs in the hangar. I checked the tags and the rack and neither reflect the fact that the bottles are aircraft specific so I didn't catch it. If they were labeled that way; it would stop any confusion. I was told that records found the mistake and the bottle was changed right away.

Title: A B737-300 ON AN OVERNIGHT CHK IT WAS FOUND THE CREW OXYGEN REQUIRED SVC. REPLACED CREW OXYGEN BOTTLE. LATER FOUND BOTTLE INCORRECT PART.

Narrative: OUR ORIGINAL PLANE HAD BEEN CANCELED AND WE HAD BEEN HANDED A ROUTINE OVERNIGHT CHK ON ANOTHER ACFT. I THINK IT CAME IN AROUND XA00. BEFORE WE HAD A CHANCE TO GET THAT ONE; THE SUPVR HAD TOLD US TO GO PICK UP ACFT X FROM THE HANGAR; THEY HAD JUST FINISHED AN ENG CHANGE. SO WE HEADED DOWN TO PICK IT UP. WHEN WE GOT THERE; WE FOUND OUT THERE WAS STILL A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE ON IT. WE HOOKED IT UP AND BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE GATE WHERE WE FINISHED OFF THE WORK. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE WAS THE OXYGEN. I SAID I WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. I PULLED THE BOTTLE OFF THE ACFT AND WENT TO GET A FULL ONE. I GOT ONE OFF THE RACK AND INSTALLED IT; FINISHED MY PAPERWORK AND TURNED IT IN. I TRY TO READ ALL THE MAINT PUBS THAT COME OUT; BUT THIS ONE HAD COME OUT IN 2002 AND I WENT TO THE LINE AFTER 10 YRS IN THE HANGAR. I CHKED THE TAGS AND THE RACK AND NEITHER REFLECT THE FACT THAT THE BOTTLES ARE ACFT SPECIFIC SO I DIDN'T CATCH IT. IF THEY WERE LABELED THAT WAY; IT WOULD STOP ANY CONFUSION. I WAS TOLD THAT RECORDS FOUND THE MISTAKE AND THE BOTTLE WAS CHANGED RIGHT AWAY.
