Narrative:
For unknown reasons; the wilkesboro; nc; NDB identify was recently changed from uk to ukf. Ukf is also the identify for the north wilkesboro airport. The BE90; cleared direct to the airport; went direct to the NDB. Arriving over the beacon; the pilot couldn't find the airport (because he was over the NDB thinking it was the airport) and had to ask for a vector to the airport.

Title: ZTL CTLR EXPRESSED CONCERN REGARDING CHANGING THE IDENT OF THE WILKESBORO NDB TO THAT OF THE ARPT; UKF.
Narrative: FOR UNKNOWN REASONS; THE WILKESBORO; NC; NDB IDENT WAS RECENTLY CHANGED FROM UK TO UKF. UKF IS ALSO THE IDENT FOR THE NORTH WILKESBORO ARPT. THE BE90; CLRED DIRECT TO THE ARPT; WENT DIRECT TO THE NDB. ARRIVING OVER THE BEACON; THE PLT COULDN'T FIND THE ARPT (BECAUSE HE WAS OVER THE NDB THINKING IT WAS THE ARPT) AND HAD TO ASK FOR A VECTOR TO THE ARPT.
