Narrative:
While practicing takeoffs and lndgs in the traffic pattern on runway 30 at old; me; an near midair collision occurred. There was another solo student in the pattern. Radio calls were made at each leg by both aircraft. When rolling from base to final; a float plane flew across our flight path at our altitude. We immediately felt the wake of its path. The float plane evidently was climbing out from the river (penobscot).
