Narrative:
On climb out; had ECAM green hydraulic overheat. Accomplished ECAM and checklist. Used dispatch call me/voice; with maintenance on frequency had discussed problem. Also had attempted to fly this same aircraft yesterday from ewr; same problem on taxi out to takeoff (twice) returned to the gate. Leveled the aircraft at FL280; confirmed with dispatch diversion to iad due to runway length; maintenance; and other flight options (last priority). Emergency equipment met aircraft; regained nosewheel steering (overheat indication quit); taxied to maintenance hard stand.
