Narrative:
On friday when I arrived at the airport and called the ATIS; I learned that the seal beach VOR was OTS. I decided to fly VFR thinking that I would be vectored all around due to the increased workload on ATC because of the outage of sli. When I obtained clearance for lax class B airspace; I was told to fly the shoreline transition at 6500 ft. I have flown the shoreline transition over lax many times. However; since I obtained my IFR rating; I have not carried an updated VFR terminal chart for los angeles. I carry up-to-date IFR charts from commercial chart manufacturer and have an up-to-date chart system in my new garmin 430 and garmin MX20. Due to my failure to have a terminal chart; I flew the old shoreline route. ATC had to advise me that the shoreline route had been changed and moved me onshore.
