Narrative:
During initial climb; the ECAM annunciated and showed the lower access doors unlocked; in amber. After due consideration; I elected to return to ZZZ for maintenance instead of continuing on for another 3 hours to ZZZ1. An emergency was declared due to the expected overweight landing; and the flight returned to the gate at ZZZ uneventfully. Landing weight was 318000 pounds; and touchdown was at less than 200 FPM and gentle.

AN EMER WAS DECLARED DUE TO THE EXPECTED OVERWT LNDG; AND THE FLT RETURNED TO THE GATE AT ZZZ UNEVENTFULLY. LNDG WT WAS 318000 LBS; AND TOUCHDOWN WAS AT LESS THAN 200 FPM AND GENTLE.
